By WYNAND WOLMARANS (SUPERACEPIGEON ).... Stock hens tend to get over weight in the stock loft and THIS is one on the biggest factors on this problem.
The best thing to do in my opinion is to get the weight down.....
The first thing i would do is...

-When the cock is driving the hen there must not he a box or place she can hide in , on the eight day you can put the box back and the hen will normally lay...

-By feeding you can also get the weight down

-If there is hormonal problems with the hen you can ask your VET for Premarin , usually a eight day treatment will solve the problem

SOME PIGEONS LEAVE THE NEST WHEN THE EGG'S PIP

I HAVE SEEN IT MOSTLY UNDER FOSTER PARENTS.......

What i have realised is that when the pair of pigeons who layed the eggs had for example , parathypiod previously in their lifes , and those eggs go to foster parents who didnt have the disease ,they would leave the pipping eggs.

My foundation cock a few years ago contracted parathypiod , half the foster pairs left the eggs (of the foundation cock) when they started hatching...and when i used that foster pairs on the other birds i had no problem.....

When I was a young fancier in 1990  one of my first projects were to breed the Huyskens van Riel strain back to its formal glory.. it was difficult in the beginning. The only Huyskens van Riel birds I could get hold of was the rubbish the other fanciers did not want. If I had one with a good wing ,one with good muscles, one with closed vents ,one with a rich eye , one with a good ventilated wing , one with a long keel , one with a short keel , one with vitality , one with a short wing , one with a long wing ect.
It was like a  SCRAPYARD many parts but not a working machine....!!!!!!!!
But in a scrapyard all the spares is there to built a super car..!!!!!
When I had a few stock (about 10) HVR birds and borrow another 10.I started breeding youngsters , about one in  twenty youngsters , I bred was better than the original.(hand selection only) I then used the best youngsters back to the best original stock....after a while I had realised that one cock and three hen's of the original 20 was good enough..... I used four offspring from the other 16 birds and the 4 good stock birds .....my Foundation cock 132451, HE WAS FROM THE LINE OF CICERO AND GESCHELPTE SCHOONOOG (LOT 5 X LOT 74 GIANI SALE)

This was my first step to VICTORY......now with 11 Stock of better quality I started the next generation of Huyskens van Riels.
In the season of 1999 I bred a lot of youngsters. One JANUARY BRED bird stood  out of the crowd a  Check 1246-99 
His sire was 132451 and his dam 11494 a hen I borrowed from a friend. .She was bred of the immortal BOLLETJIE of John Giani mated to his own daughter.

1246-99 Became the new Foundation cock. He  was paired to a the Trichartd de Witt HVR hen ,she was of the imports of Louis de Witt and and DB. van Rensburg imported.
the first baby 5451-99 called SOEBAT (IT MEANS TO BEG) of this pair became a Legend.
He had 1,3,3,4,6,8,8,9,13,13,13,19, 20,22,22,25,26,26...ect
He would come  and sit on the roof and sit up to ten minutes before going in and then he would loose the race with 3 or 4 minutes and still become the 1ST ACE ALLROUND MILLC.

1246-99 paired to his own mother bred the BOLLETJIE HEN. Four was bred this way ....3 was useless as racers but BOLLETJIE HEN WON THE UNION TWICE...

She was then paired to soebat to bred THE BOLLETJIE cock AND the PLANK COCK...The bolletjie cock also became a union winner....

1246-99 paired to 9227 of NAAS RAUTENBACH, Bred the famous WHITEPRINCE , sire to 6 x winner , 2nd ,3rd, mainrace Millinium one raceloft and 2nd and 3rd best birds Millinium one race Loft..

When I stopped the breeding of the Huyskens van Riel strain , 1246-99 , Soebat , Bolletjie cock , Plank, CAR WINNER , ELANA ,QUEEN the NAT LOFT winner of R100000 and many more moved to their new home at the lofts of GERT SWART. Because GERT already had an some HVR birds the family that would be kept pure for the next generations..

1246-99 and SOEBAT is now the foundation birds at GERT SWART....

Battling the short distance and highspeed races

I got my first racing pigeon in 1972 . After years a fancier tends to get fixed on a certain type of pigeon...

There is nothing wrong with that. Almost all older and experienced racing pigeon fanciers will tell you , so and so many years ago they won the shorts and can't figure out why they are battling now!!!!

If you ask the older fancier if he like
1. Closed ventbones
2. Good covering on the wing
3. Longer rather than shorter body shapes
4. Long muscles
5. One tail feather like tail
6. Headwind races


He will CERTAINLY tell you that is a must FOR GOOD PIGEONS .........!!!!!

Shortdistance OR SPEED birds is normally the opposite of that
AND THEY CANT KEEP UP TO THE DISTANCE......

So for you as fancier to fly races from 200km to 1100km you must at least have 2 different  mindsets ...

EVEN UNDER PEOPLE YOU WILL SEE THE MATATHON RUNNERS AND THE SPRINTERS IS TOTALLY OPPOSITES........

IN PIGEONS IT IS THE SAME
HORSES FOR COURSES.....

OLDER FANCIERS TEND TO FLY ALL THEIR BIRDS UP TO THE END OF THE SEASON , MAY BE THEY FLY THE YEARLINGS TO 600 OR 700 KM.. BUT NORMALLY THE OLD BIRDS UP TO THE END...

I HAVE SEEN ALL THE SPEEDSTERS AND HIGH SPEED (VELOCITY) BIRDS GET LOST..
-They now breed more and more stamina in to their team
-Every year the speed genes get less and less in the loft
-All the speed genes is now lost in racers ,
-Now the racers become so slow that they cant even win on one day races
